   Form the first loop

   Lay an open loop in the first rope, with the tail crossing the standing part.

   Bring in the second rope

   Approach diagonally from the opposite side.

   Cross the first pair of ends

   Pass over one first-rope strand and under the next.

   Weave around the loop

   Continue the alternating over-and-under path around the first loop.

   Complete the weave

   Bring the tail through the final opening. The two tails finish at diagonally opposite corners.

   Set the flat weave

   Ease slack out of the flat pattern, keeping every crossing alternating. Under load a Carrick changes shape further.
