   Approach the eye

   Bring the tag end toward the hook eye.

   Pass through the eye

   Thread the tag end through the eye and turn it back toward the standing line.

   Start the wraps

   Wind the tag end around the standing line, moving away from the hook.

   Complete five turns

   Continue in the same direction. Keep the five turns separate.

   Pass the small loop

   Bring the tag end down and pass it through the small loop just above the eye.

   Leave the tag end

   Draw the tag out through the small loop. The ordinary clinch ends here, without the improved version’s second tuck.

   Gather the five turns

   Draw the five wraps together toward the eye, keeping the return through the small opening. Moisten suitable fishing line before seating it.
