  1. 1

Place the spars side by side

Keep a small gap so the frapping turns can pass between the two spars.

  2. 2

    Tie the starting clove hitch

Secure the rope around the left spar below the lashing.

  3. 3

    Make three wrapping turns

Wrap around both spars, placing each turn beside the previous one.

  4. 4

    Complete seven turns

Continue upward to make a band of seven even wraps.

  5. 5

    Enter the gap

Bring the rope between the spars and around the whole band of wraps.

  6. 6

    Make the first frap

Pass around the wrapping turns, between the spars.

  7. 7

    Add the second frap

Make a second frapping turn beside the first. Pull both firmly in real rope.

  8. 8

    Finish with a clove hitch

Tie a clove hitch on the other spar above the wrapping band.

  9. 9

    Snug the wraps and hitches

Gather the wrapping band around both poles and snug the two fraps. Draw slack out of the starting and finishing clove hitches.
