Anchor Hitch

Attach a rope to a ring with a round turn and a tucked half hitch.

For a lasting attachment, secure the tail to the standing part with a seizing.

Step-by-step

Start below the ring
Bring the working end upward in front of the ring.
Approach the opening
Leave enough tail to make the turns and the finishing hitches.
Pass through the ring
Take the end through the opening from front to back.
Add the second pass
Go beneath the bar and through the ring again. Leave the round turns loose.
Go around the standing part
Bring the end down the left, across the front of the standing part, and around to the right.
Thread through the slack turns
Pass the end from right to left through the slack turns, below the ring’s metal bar.
Cross down the front
Bring the end diagonally across the front toward the standing part below.
Add the final half hitch
Go around the standing part and tuck the end beneath the diagonal.
Bring out the tail
Leave a short working end to the right.
Check the anchor hitch
The first hitch locks beneath the original turns. A second half hitch secures the tail around the standing part.
