Overlap the ends
Lay two ropes alongside one another, with their standing parts pointing in opposite directions.

Bring the tails alongside
Leave enough overlap to tie an overhand around each opposing rope.

Wrap each opposing rope
Make one turn with each tail around the other rope.

Pass through each turn
Tuck each tail back through its own turn to form an overhand knot.

Leave both tails
Keep a visible tail beyond each small knot.

Bring the knots together
Draw the standing ropes apart to bring the two overhands together. Each overhand still surrounds the opposite rope.
