    Fold the rope

    Bring the rope back on itself to make a bight. Keep the two free parts together.

    Make an overhand loop

    Treat the doubled rope as one strand and bend the bight around into a loop.

    Bring the fold behind

    Carry the closed fold behind the loop’s left side.

    Pass the bight through

    Feed the folded end through the opening and bring it out above.

  5. 5

    Open the finished loop

    Draw out enough of the bight for the attachment.

    Dress the overhand

    Take slack out of the doubled overhand while retaining the fixed eye. Keep its two strands side by side.
