Start with the end
Leave enough free rope to form a small loop.

Make a loop
Curve the end around and cross in front of the standing part.

Enter from behind
Bring the end behind the left side and into the loop.

Pull the end through
Continue through the opening and out over the top of the loop.

Set the stopper
Pull the two free parts to take slack out of the loop. Keep a visible tail beyond the compact stopper.
