  1. 1

    Overlap the spars

Place two spars alongside each other with a substantial overlap.

  2. 2

    Tie a clove around both

Secure the starting end around both spars together.

  3. 3

    Wind four close turns

Lay the turns next to one another around both spars.

  4. 4

    Complete eight turns

Continue along the overlap to form a close band.

  5. 5

Bring the end above the band

Leave room for a finishing clove above the wraps.

  6. 6

    Finish around both spars

Tie a clove hitch around the same pair of spars.

  7. 7

    Check the round lashing

This lashing has no fraps. A practical spar extension normally uses two spaced lashings.
