Leave a binding end
Hold the two sticks at right angles and bring the rope up in front.

Pass beside the upright
Run the first strand alongside the vertical stick.

Wrap the crosspiece
Go over and behind the horizontal stick on one side.

Cross the front
Carry the end diagonally over the front of the upright.

Wrap the other side
Go behind the horizontal stick on the opposite side.

Lock beneath the crossing
Tuck the end under the crossing to form the constrictor binding.

Bring out the tail
Keep the two tails clear of the sticks.

Dress the binding
Pull the ends apart to clamp the crossed sticks. This is a compact binding, not a full multi-turn lashing.
