Double Uni

Double Uni
Preparing the rope…

Overlap two lines

1/8

Lay the two ends alongside each other, pointing in opposite directions.

Fishing · 8 steps

Join two fishing lines with opposing Uni knots.

Also known as Uni-to-Uni knot, Double Grinner.

The Double Uni joins two fishing lines by making a Uni around each opposing standing part. Tighten each barrel separately, then draw the standing lines apart so the two knots meet. Both lines remain independent throughout the tying sequence.

The two sides do not always need the same wrap count when materials or diameters differ. This lesson shows the structure clearly with the barrels separated. In real line, seat each side carefully before bringing the pair together.

When to use it

Connect a main line to a leader.

Keep in mind

Wrap count depends on the line. Seat each knot before drawing the pair together.

Check your knot

  • Each Uni surrounds the opposite standing line.
  • Both barrels are seated before the pair is drawn together.
  • Both short tags remain visible at the finished join.
How to tie Double Uni
  1. Overlap two lines

Lay the two ends alongside each other, pointing in opposite directions.

  2. Make the first loop

Fold the first tag end back to make a loop beside both lines.

  3. Wrap the first end

Pass the first end around both lines and through its loop.

  4. Complete six turns

Keep six turns in the same direction, then leave the tag pointing down.

  5. Make the second loop

Form a loop with the other tag end on the opposite side.

  6. Wrap the other end

Wind the second end around both lines and through its own loop.

  7. Complete the second Uni

Finish six turns and leave the second tag pointing up.

  8. Gather the opposed Unis

Snug the six turns on each side and bring the two barrels toward each other. Keep both short tails visible.
